Thursday 3 July 2025: The UK Government unveiled its 10 Year Health Plan for the NHS today, outlining its vision to make healthcare more community and digitally focused, with plans to improve preventative care by introducing ‘Neighbourhood Health Services’.
Responding to the announcement, Matt Killick, Chief Operating Officer for St John Ambulance, said:
"We welcome the ambitions of the NHS 10 Year Health Plan, particularly its commitment to shifting the focus of NHS effort and resources to prevention and bringing healthcare closer to communities.
"Effective delivery of the plan could be both accelerated and amplified by a strong commitment from the government to support more powerful partnerships with the voluntary and community sector.
“For almost 150 years, thousands of skilled and dedicated St John Ambulance volunteers have worked tirelessly in their communities, helping those in need, giving people the skills and confidence to act in emergencies and inspiring the next generation.
“But too often, these skills are under-valued and under-utilised, as we saw with the recent closure of our ambulance auxiliary.
“We now look forward to working in closer partnership with the NHS and the government to help bring the aspirations of this plan to life over the coming decade."
